This camera set-up was originally created by Joel Thompson to take remote photographs of Fishers.  I took the same idea along with my own creations and adaptations to make this mountain beaver cam.  Above- the basic unit, the camera, the runway, and the culvert covering.

Below left- shows the camera with the actuator wires coming out the front and terminated with some quick-release connectors.  

Below right- shows the wires traveling down the runway to the paddle actuator.  The paddle is spring loaded for just the right size specimen.  As the animal steps on the paddle to take the bait (strawberry) the paddle moves down connecting the two pins the camera wires are attached to and a star is born.
