| The California red (Sonoma) tree vole (arborimus pomo) If you are required to survey for the California red tree vole (RTV) you are probably within their range and have coniferous trees on your property. Don't worry, BioConsultant LLC can help. We perform surveys and have even removed voles to nearby trees, out of the construction zone. Removing trees occupied by the RTV requires a biological monitor during removal. We perform monitor work for numerous species and can help you meet that requirement.
Tree voles have evolved with the North Coast Coniferous Forests of Oregon and California. Its southern range is the Coastal (fog) Zone of Sonoma County.
Range MapNests and feeding platforms can be seen from the ground. Their exclusive diet of conifer trees, predominantly Douglas-fir needles makes them an interesting animal to study. They can even fall to the ground from the top of a 100' fir tree and scurry into their pre-made escape holes at the base of the tree- a survival technique to avoid winged predators and biologists with sampling poles.
